1st Vet and Dog Food

When we got our little buddy one of the first places we took him to get checked out etc was the downtown pet hospital. This is a very nice place that was amazingly close to where i lived so at first it was perfect.
Of-course we good service comes the price so every visit ended up to be about $100 - $150 which is OK in the beginning because you worry about your little guy.

There was only one think that caught my attention and that i started to research.

Little Story about choosing dog food

At first from all the puppy books that i had read the one think that i found out for dog food is that Dry food is better then Wet food
(Wet food/canned food is the worst dog food) and that a puppy needs as much protein as possible and in general for the first year as much food as possible (i fed him three times a day)
Thus i started with Walmart where i used to buy most of my food and stuff in general. In Walmart i found Rachael Ray puppy chow which had a good quantity (% wise) of protein out of meat products.

Then

The Vet in Downtown Pet hospital gave us a puppy pack from science diet for free. I really enjoyed that (of course for $150 visit i expect a little something lol) . So i switched my puppy to science diet.

But then

I found http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com which gave reviews on all the dog food you could think of. What I can say is WOW do you learn alot!

Rachael Ray
"Overall, this appears to be a very low quality dog food, with minimal meat content and many low grade ingredients. There is no risk that it will be awarded a better than 2* rating."

Science Diet

Pros:
Cons:Insufficient meat content, by-products, fat of unidentifiable source, low quality grains and other controversial filler.

Thus in the end to summarize this story
the dog food he told me was bad. Then i said the name of another dog food that is a 5 star dog food and he was completely against it. Can you guess what dog food they sold at that vet ?

well shortly after i switched Vets :)

that will be another post

Tired Puppy

This is what a happy tired little puppy looks like

Why do puppies (if you are lucky) sleep or rest belly up?

sleeping belly up is not a common behavior among wild dogs. Obviously as this puts a animal in a very vunerable position. After all, to offer up one’s soft underbelly when you’re already at your most defenseless is not exactly in a predator’s best interest –– much less in his nature.

And this may help explain why some pet dogs are more willing to sleep with their bellies exposed than others. It seems that more relaxed, easy-going dogs are over-represented among those who regularly assume a belly-up position –– the dogs most temperamentally distanced from their wild cousins.
Of course, there’s a lot to be said for the role of socialization as well. Dogs who engage in this behavior tend to be secure, well-socialized individuals who enjoy safe, stable, comfortable surroundings.

So if you do have a dog that loves showing you his belly its a clear sign that he trusts you and is relaxed around you :)

Day I was Born

This is the day i Was Born !

I was 1 out of 7 little bundles of Joy

As you can see I look nothing like my mother! hahahah
she is a mix/mutt but i know for sure she is part Rhodesian Ridgeback, her name is "sally"
The Seven of us were named:

  1. Mika
  2. Zena
  3. Lada
  4. Lucky
  5. Liev
  6. Baldrick
  7. Charlie
I never got to know my father. He was the neighbor and i know everyonce in a while he would escape his house hold and come spend time with my mother :)

It was a cold winter day when i was born in North Carolina Georgia and my mother tried to hide under the house to give birth to us ! In the end her master was able to convince her to come inside and give birth in the Library. Lucky me its a lot warmer inside then outside

Puppy Party - Doglando University

We Took Liev to Doglando University link for one of his first socialization experiences.

It is very important to socialize a dog at a very young age. !!! The hard part is that Vets and people will also tell you that at the same time your puppy should be careful of meeting new dogs cause he can get disease etc.

thus it makes it hard at times to find a good way to mix the both priorities. This is were puppy parties come in. All doggies are about the same age so its a bit safer and no really big dogs to boss them around.
There was a little beach and grass and all the things that a puppy needs to have a good time

i believe it was something like 5 or 10 dollars for the fun and it was well worth it

plus they had a pretty healthy selection of dog food

Enjoy the little video and pics
